GENERAL ASPECTS OF IMPORTANCE FOR MEDICAL STUDIES IN CUBA

  1. Specialty programs cannot be subject to default changes in terms of time and content. It is possible to add time or hours and content at the request of the interested party by means of a written request at least 45 days before the final exam of the first year and the presentation of the study program referring to the content to be added to the Cuban program, all of which requires an analysis by the group of experts designated by the Rector of the University of Medical Sciences where the student will study. The applicant must pay the corresponding payment for the time and/or content added according to a technical opinion. There is no possibility of eliminating time or content declared in the study programs of each specialty, except for validations with the required documentation.
  2. Specialty programs are not sent before your arrival and official registration. Only general information about the specialty is sent at the request of the student, but never the complete curriculum. Upon arrival, the student has the right to obtain the Specialty Program in digital format or to view it in the libraries of academic institutions. If during or after the International Health Control the student is diagnosed with any disabling disease described in this document, he/she will be suspended from teaching activities and must return to his/her country immediately. If the disease is curable, the student may return as long as he/she presents a medical certificate legalized by the Cuban embassy in his/her country of origin or residence, which proves his/her cure. In any other case, readmission will not be possible.
  3. If, once the studies of the specialty that the student has chosen have begun, he/she decides to change his/her specialty and there are vacant places in the same, he/she has the right to make the change within the first three (3) months of beginning his/her studies. To request the change, he/she must do so in writing to the Teaching Department of the center where he/she is studying, with a copy to the Postgraduate Department of the University of Medical Sciences and to the Academic Services Department of Servicios Médicos Cubanos, S.A. and wait for the opinion of said institutions. To start in the new specialty, the student must pay one thousand (1,000.00) USD again for the tuition fee for the new specialty. If the specialty to which the student transfers is from a higher fee group, he or she must pay the difference before starting the same, but if he or she transfers to a lower fee group, he or she will not receive a refund in that year and only from the following year will he or she pay the corresponding amount for that academic year with the corresponding discount of what he or she paid according to the group in which the new specialty is classified. After 3 months and one (1) day, he or she will not have the right to request a change of specialty.
  4. To transfer from one University of Medical Sciences (UCM) to another province, the student must direct his or her request in writing to the Rector of the UCM where he or she is located and from there the consultation of the possible transfer will be made to the Postgraduate Directorate of the Ministry of Public Health, where it will be decided whether the transfer is possible or not.
  5. If the student drops out (academic, due to personal problems, illness or others) in a period less than 50% of the time declared in the study program for the agreed academic activity, he/she has the right to a refund of 40% of the payment made for said concept, except for the registration fee. After 50% and one (1) day of the time declared in the study program for said activity has elapsed, he/she will not be entitled to any compensation. The above does not exempt the student from the payment of any other economic responsibility acquired. If the withdrawal is the result of violations of discipline or noncompliance with the Regulations of the Residence Regime of the Ministry of Public Health and Regulation No. 26-2012 for foreign students established by the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), he/she will not receive any refund.
  6. If the withdrawal is the result of a diagnosis of any of the disabling diseases declared in this document or pregnancy, he/she will not receive any refund and must immediately return to his/her country of origin or residence. If the student drops out for any reason during the first week after the time declared in the study program for the professional development figures: courses, training, internships, diplomas or the first month of those corresponding to academic training: specialties, masters and doctorates, 10% of the total payment made for academic services will be deducted.
  7. Once your registration is official, an individual contract will be signed between the student, the University of Medical Sciences where you will receive the academic services and the Commercial University.
  8. Medical Services Agency (branches). Once the contract has been signed, if the student does not appear for the agreed academic services, 10% of the agreed sum will be deducted, not including the registration fee, which is not refundable.
