Blepharoplasty is a procedure designed to remove of excess skin and handle the fat bags of both the upper and lower eyelids to improve the appearance of tired eyes and make them look younger and fresher.
Blepharoplasty consists of a functional or cosmetic surgical procedure with the purpose of remodeling the upper or lower eyelid by removing and / or repositioning excess of tissue as well as strengthening the surrounding muscles and tendons.
Blepharoplasty. When there is a significant amount of skin on the eyelid, the skin can hang over the eyelashes and cause the loss of peripheral vision. The external and superior parts of the visual field are the most commonly affected and the condition can cause difficulty with activities such as driving or reading. In these circumstances, upper eyelid blepharoplasty is carried out to improve peripheral vision. Patients with a smaller amount of excess skin can perform a similar procedure for cosmetic reasons.
Surgery on the lower eyelid is almost always done for cosmetic reasons, to improve the "bags" of the lower eyelids and reduce wrinkling of the skin. Since it is very frequent that when people reach their 40s, their eyelids fall due to the excess of skin on them. This happens in both the top and the bottom.
To this must be added the presence of bags in the eyelids (especially in the lower eyelids) and even "eyelids" in many occasions. In fact, the problem of bags (which is fat accumulated in the eyelids) can be found from a very early age, as it can be hereditary.
The blepharoplasty is performed through external incisions made along the natural lines of the eyelids, such as the stripes of the upper ones and below the eyelashes in the lower ones, or by the internal surface of the lower eyelid.
It is usually an outpatient surgery because it is not necessary for the patient to remain hospitalized. The recovery is fast. Initial swelling and swamping take a week or two to disappear but it takes at least several months until the final result becomes stable. Depending on the scope of the procedure, the surgery takes one to three hours to be completed.
